Investigational studies into nucleic acid structure, and protein-nucleic acid structure interactions and structure-activity relationships require oligonucleotides in which a variety of different modifications, or combinations of modifications, have been incorporated. The specific type, or types, of modifications required is highly dependent on the hypothesis being tested in the study.
