Over the past two decades, law enforcement’s ability to collect and analyze biological evidence has become critically important in criminal investigations. While technological advancements now allow for reliable genetic profiling of infinitesimal, trace quantity of DNA (such as DNA left on a doorknob or DNA associated with a fingerprint), thus far there has been no mechanism to effectively collect such limited samples reliably and consistently.
An independent study conducted by the National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) concluded the Omni-Matrix™ Z20 “With regard to the 2ul blood stain, the Omni-Matrix appeared to collect and release the entirety of the 2ul sample” and the Omni-Matrix™ K105 for collection of trace fingerprints sample “Overall the Omni-Matrix K105 performed considerably better than the best performing swab on the market for low level samples, the PurFlock® Ultra swab, in retrieval of DNA from fingerprint samples”.
